KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 – Sessions Court judge SM Komathy Suppiah has ruled against the prosecution's application to transfer Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II trial to the High Court.

She said the lower court had the power to hear the case.

The decision represents a significant victory for Anwar's defence team.

Anwar had objected to the application to transfer the case to the High Court because it was made by the Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, who has been accused by Anwar of evidence tampering in an earlier case.

The former deputy prime minister is charged with sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

SEPT 24 - I write this as a Malaysian, as someone who, over 47 years of political life, has had the privilege of playing some small part in the formation our country, the building of its institutions, and our achievement of a degree of economic sufficiency. I write out of deep concern about the present state of our country.

In the lives of nations as of individuals, there come moments of profound possibility, when the potential for self-transcendence and for self-destruction are simultaneously present.

As before some critical examination in our youth, we come to the daunting realisation that we hold our future in our hands, when how we will fare many years hence, and whether we shall flourish or languish, will depend on how we conduct ourselves now, in this small window of time.

We are in a political impasse that threatens to metastasise into a Constitutional crisis. Political crises come and go, but the present crisis might well be the beginning of a cascade of failures leading to long-term instability and destruction.

1) Our impasse occurs at a time of heightened economic, political and security challenges. The global economy faces the prospect of a meltdown on a scale last seen in the Great Depression of the last century. As a trading nation, we are strongly exposed to its effects.

Meanwhile, while we seem to have slept, the global economy is undergoing an epic transformation that we must either adapt to or are marginalised by.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng last night floated the possibility of Perak acquiring the Kamunting ISA detention camp as a start to ending the tough security law.

Lim, himself an ISA detainee in the 1987 crackdown, said the Pakatan Rakyat states can start a donation drive among Malaysians to help acquire the colonial-era camp in northern Perak.

"The state can acquire land for two reasons; economic development and for public purposes, but we have to study the law first," Lim told the Abolish ISA forum held at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall here.

"The land can then be used for development of low-cost houses," the DAP secretary-general said.

"I am sure Malaysians want to contribute towards the effort to remove the stain of the ISA off Malaysia."

Lim said other Pakatan-ruled states could also help Perak to acquire the detention camp, although he admitted it could be a costly exercise.

This morning Sessions judge SM Komathy Suppiah will be hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence counsel on whether the case can be transferred to the High Court.

At the last hearing, the prosecution had sought permission for the matter to be transferred to the High Court. However the defence team objected to the transfer notice as it was signed by attorney- general (AG) Abdul Gani Patail.

Their objection was on the basis that the AG should not have played any role in this case as he was being investigated following a complaint that the had tampered with evidence in Anwar's cases 10 years ago.

The hearing never materialized.

This morning, Syed Hamid Albar the Home Minister signed and approved RPK's arrest under section 8 of the ISA act, which means that not only he would be detained for 2 years, he would not be able to challenge the legality of the arrest.

An English-language daily in Sabah quoted Tan as saying that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had wanted Yong arrested by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA). This was after Yong spearheaded a no-confidence vote against Abdullah’s leadership.

In defending himself against claims of ingratitude by failing to support the Sapp pullout, Tan revealed that he had intervened on Yong’s behalf in June.

He said he had pleaded with Abdullah not to arrest Yong as it would be a bad move, and had even gone on television with a plea to allow the latter to speak up.

Tan, who has since quit the party, claimed he had always been protective of Yong and that this has not changed in spite of their differences of opinion over the Sapp pullout.

Also Friday, police released an opposition lawmaker who was detained last week along with two other people under a law allowing indefinite detention. The arrests had intensified the climate of political restlessness in the country.

An aide to Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak denied he was postponing his overseas tour because of politics, saying Najib wants to remain in Malaysia over the next week to tackle his new job as finance minister.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi relinquished his finance ministry portfolio to Najib on Wednesday as part of a protracted power hand-over. Abdullah has promised to step down before 2010 amid escalating demands from his ruling party for his swift retirement.

Richard is so nostalgic, every conversation you have with him will start with the word 'VI'... So to do my part in making him miss VI even more, I will blog about the jokes, laughs and valuable times we had. Those were golden moments!

1. The Saya Anjing ma (I am a DOG ma!) fiasco
One day in Form 2 (2004) me and Richard were throwing erasers at each other. One of my stray erasers went and hit our class STONER (sorry whatever your name is already...) So he woke up and was like REALLY ANGRY!!!... and then he looked our way. Being a smart coward, I quickly looked away and acted all innocent. At that time, Ivan was in the line of fire. So the STONER decided (maybe his mind still in sleep mode) that Ivan was the one that woke him up. So he stormed to Ivan and went KENAPA KAMU LONTAR RUBBER INI KEPADA SAYA (WHY DID YOU THROW THAT ERASER TO ME)... or something to that effect. Ivan, being the new boy in class was naturally scared. So he went Sorry la... and then the STONER GLARED at him and stormed away. Later Richard remarked in fits of laughter that the way Ivan said Sorry la was like saying SORRY LA.... saya ANJING KAN!!! (Sorry la, I am a DOG!!!)... This line became legendary and everytime i MSN with Ivan this line pops up:D

2. The Gau.... gau.... SCRABBLE LA! (play... play SCRABBLE!) fiasco
This remains really blur in my memory... but from what I remembered it was a impromptu joke session and Chee Kit Wai, Khristie, CMIN, Rich and Ivan were making it up... So here it goes. (Presented to you in a play):

(btw, Saujana is reputed to be a GAY place... its IVAN's old school lol)

SCENE 2 (its the funny part, remember, I think this was impromptu humour)

CMIN MOTHER: CMIN LEI TONG NGO GAU YE (Come and 'PLAY' with me)

CMIN: Gao mat ye (play what?)

CMIN MOTHER: ~mysteriously~ gao..... YE LA (play...... things la)

CMIN: GAO MAT YE??? (PLAY WHAT???)

CMIN MOTHER: ...ye la! (THINGS LA!)

CMIN: GAO MAT YEEE???? (PLAY WHATTT???!!!)

CMIN MOTHER: ~very very mysteriously~ gao..... gaoo..... SCRABBLE LA~!!!! (play... playy.... SCRABBLE LA!!!)

LOL... i real life its much more funnier :D

3. The THIS ROCK LOOKS LIKE EDMUND'S MOTHER'S BREAT fiasco (I'm not proud of it!)

You have to understand we are really immatured and mean...
Well, during the art exam, I was drawing this Finding Nemo picture... when I started drawing a rock. At that time, the running gig was that Edmund's mother had breast cancer (see, I told you we were mean). So I declared openly in class with Edmund behind me... WAH, THIS ROCK LOOKS LIKE EDMUND'S MOTHER'S CANCER BREAST!

Edmund was FURIOUS!!!! He came over, and WHACKED me on the back... Then my big mouth got scared and kept quiet. I heard by the side Pong Loong Kean saying: afterwards we beat up Victor OK? I was like *SCARED*... So after school, I ran quickly back home and hid... Luckily Edmund forget this incident and forgave me easily...

4. The MULIMAU fiasco
Me, Richard and CMIN used to play this fantasy game where we were all rulers of different ancient countries. So one day, someone brought a Pomelo Melon skin (not unlike the one on top of the cat)... So Richard go and take the skin and put it on top of CMIN's head, and declared him MULIMAU CHIUN MIN, MULIMAU (meaning some kind of ruler) of Duxton! Till this day I don't know where Richard got the ingenuity of the Mulimau call.

5. The JAGA JAGA JAGA fiasco
In form 3 (2005), Richard was elected class vice president. So.... he had the responsibility to keep the all important BLUE BOOK. Failure to do so will result in the use of the ROTAN on the LOSER (meaning the one who lost it, not the one who is a loser :S). One day, we found out that the book was MISSING!!! We were so nervous, searching high and low for it. We were so scared that we went to our class teacher, Pn. Rafidah. She was like: Don't worry, saya akan JAGA kamu (Don't worry, I will PROTECT YOU). However, the way she said it was so funny... almost in a sexual way. We then ended up finding the blue book hidden in JOSHUA'S bag... like WTF he is the last person you'd think would do that. Anyway, I then went on to make a parody of Rafidah:
Satu Jaga, Satu Malam
Dua Jaga, Lima Malam
Sepuluh Jaga, Beribu-ribu malam
MWAHAHAHAHAHA

translated loosely to:
(One protection, one night,
Two protections, FIVE NIGHTS

MWAHAHAHAHA)

This phrase then became legendary, when we adapted it into many different version, among them, Chef Wan, Wadi, and a paedophile. We also translated it into Cantonese, Malay, ENglish and Mandarine... I remember the funniest one was:

6. Si Hami Lang? (What Clan are you from?) fiasco

I think Si Hami Lang is Hakka or Hokkien... anyway, Richard always asks people Lu Si Hami Lang (What Chinese Clan are you from). One day... he deviated from his usual thing and declared that CMIN si dickhead lang (CMIN is from the dickhead clan)... The funny part is this pattern went everywhere. Richard asked everyone Lu Si Hami Lang (what clan are you from) and then answered for them. For example, he declared that Wayne si IBAN lang (Wayne is an Iban, a tribe in Malaysia, not unlike the picture on your left... apparantly Wayne has Iban blood, which he is for some reason ashamed of).

Thats not all... I'll be back with more more and more... just have no time right now...

Reflecting on this year so far, I have to say my year has been quite interesting... Among the things I have done:

1. Captain of Debating (yay)... the previous post's emo lamenting was a hoax to make me agitated...
2. Hammarskjold Trophy State Finals
3. Hammarskjold Trophy 4th Place
4. Gone to Melbourne
5. Fallen in love with Malcolm in the Middle
6. Become obsessed with 8 Simple Rules and Hana Kimi
7. Started watching Strage Days at Blake Holsey High (Black Hole High) - this sounds really weird :P XD
8. Reignited my passion for badminton
9. Became a fan of Tan Boon Heong and Lee Chong Wei :D
10. Established a weekly ritual for me to go out with my 2 best friends to Fremantle for lunch/dinner...
11. Watched the whole Cricket World Cup Finals (from 9pm to 7am :D)
12. Became a fan of Cricket (watched lots of Ashes, CWC, and Twenty20)
13. Tried out Tennis
14. Became a fan of tennis
15. Became a fan of Roger Federer (So sad he couldn't win FO but yay for his 5th Wimbledon)
16. Became a fan of Andy Roddick (Massive serve and forehand :D )
17. Became a avid and notorious hater of Rafael Nadal (like wtf??? who wears pants like that... and his stare is soooo evil and he is the main rival of Federer so I dislike him...)
18. Written a 30/30, 29/30, 28/30, 27/30. 26/30, 25/30, 24/30, 23/30 and a 22/30 essay for English
19. Learned to hate Calculus
20. Learned to hate followers of Calculus
21. Read Harry Potter in 5 hours... (DH)
22. Learned how to be not concerned about my EXAMS!!!!
23. Watched Ahmed Deedat debates
24. Watched almost every MD and MS badminton game there is
25. Tried out DEFINITION TACTICS in debates :D
26. Became a pro at Points of Information :D
27: Sat my UMAT (University Medical Admission Test) exams... I think it went well...
28. Went to Melbourne to do a UMAT course
29. Played lots of MSN games with Rich
30. Joked and remembered the old times lots with Richard...

No debating captain. No debating vice. Nothing. Who got them? Somebody that I helped get colours for, and somebody that isn't even in a team. Good. Yes. Betrayed. Hurt.

So what should I do? I comtemplated quitting. But no. I think i want to work as hard as I can, to show everyone that I can. I will take it upon myself to do as muc hservice as possible to debating. I am doing this for the junior members, who are really talented and I think they will go far.

I really don't know. If my commitment and dedication to debating is questioned, I really don't see what I can do.

2. Get the University Exhibition for Indonesian (Best student in state)

4. Practise badminton and hope to make firsts next year

5. Complete Chopin's Etude 25 No 11 and 9 (Winterwind and Butterfly) for the Will Upson Award

6. Finish mugging and rerevising SATIRE and other common combinations

7. Prepare for LMUSA (Liscenciate - Degree) in Performing for the Piano - This is to: 1. Show the school and those who doubted me that I am THE best pianist in the school and I am in no way INFERIOR to Adrian Khoo (who left last year, and for some reason, I remain in his shadow)
2. Show my parents that not only Aunty's son can have a Diploma at a age of 14:-"Wah you see Auntie's son so geng, pass grade 8 Violin and Piano and preparing for his Diploma in Performing for piano bla bla bla bla" (My calculations show that if I pass Liscenciate, I would be above all those 'competitors' - as I am 16 years old now)
3. Give my parents something to brag about: - "Wah you see people son like to brag so much, first thing get music scholarship call me... I suppose this is something to be about lorr...You leh?...." and then me at the telephone will roll my eyes...

You see children now so busy leh... Although we get more niceties than all the uncles and aunties last time, but we got much more pressure.

Tribute to Jon Gan

Jonathon Gan, a friend of mine in VI, passed away last week after a couragoeous fight with brain cancer. Although I did not know him that well, I still feel sad for him. A scout from the First KL Scout Group, he shared an intense rivality with my former scout group, the 2nd KL Scout Group (or fondly known as the VSG).

Perhaps who I am sad for isn't him. He has moved on. He is in another divine land, probably enjoying himself. For who I feel sad for, perhaps, are his parents. His mother stayed so optimistic throughout her ordeal, clinging on what little hope she had. She said that Jon would be doing Science Stream subjects, and even insisted that he sat for his PMR exams last year. His mum selected his subjects, trying to be as optimistic as possible.

Again, I commend Ben on 'his best photo yet' from his blog

Rest in peae Jon. We will always remember you.
